Professional Improvisation That Will Make You Laugh, Cry and Think.

Monkey Toast is an improvisational theatre company founded in Toronto in 2003 by Second City Main Stage alumnus, David Shore. Over the past 20 plus years we’ve called 8 different venues our home, won 6 Canadian Comedy Awards, made thousands of locals laugh, impressed our corporate clients and even expanded into the UK. Our mission has always been simple: to assemble the best group of improvisers to put on the best possible show.

Come out and see why Now Magazine called us “…the best comedy deal in town.”

Current & Past Shows:

An Evening of Improv with The Monkey Toast Players (Now playing)

A version of our original show that started in 2003, each performance features six of Toronto’s top improvisers. Based on an audience suggest, our monologist shares a true, personal story, which serves as the springboard for the cast’s improvised scenes; alternating between monologues and improv.

This show runs monthly (except for July & August) at Comedy Bar, 945 Bloor St. West, at 7pm and tickets are $25.  (Click here for tickets/info)

The Improvised Talk Show (Currently on hiatus for public shows)

Our flagship format — now exclusive to private and corporate bookings—features two celebrity guests interviewed live on stage. Their stories become fuel for improvised scenes by the Monkey Toast Players, all led by our host, David Shore.

The Arkin and Friends (On hiatus)

In 2003 Second City alumnus and now Academy Award-winner Alan Arkin led a 3-day improv intensive in Toronto. Inspired by one of the exercises, Monkey Toast founder David Shore later developed it into a new format. After returning from the UK in 2016, he workshopped the idea with the Monkey Toast Players and created The Arkin.

Each show at Crow’s Theatre began with a stand-up set from a top Toronto comic, followed by the Monkey Toast Players performing The Arkin.
